Arbor Knot

Wondering how to tie an arbor knot?

In just a few moments you'll be on your way to tying your first one or for the more experienced this will be a refresher.

This is a great knot for the beginner to master as it is very quick and easy. This knot is used to tie your backing to the spool center or the arbor of your fly fishing reel.

Ready?  Here we go...

How To Tie:

1. Wrap the backing around the spool center or arbor.

2. With the free end or tag end, tie an overhand knot around the standing line.

3. Next tie another overhand knot in the free end.

 4. Lastly grab the standing end of the line and pull, this will snug the knot against the arbor.

5. Wind the backing onto your reel. NOTE: Be sure that your line feeds to the bottom of the reel from the guide on your rod. If it feeds from the top your winding your line backwards.

There you go. Now you know how to tie your backing to the arbor on your reel. Remember to practice before you go out fly fishing, that way you'll spend more time fly fishing and less time trying to remember how to get that backing onto your reel using the arbor knot
