The Beginner Fly Fisher
"...My father was very sure about certain matters pertaining to the universe. To him, all good things—trout as well as eternal salvation—come by grace and grace comes by art and art does not come easy."
-from a "River Runs Through It" by Norman McLean
If you are just thinking of getting into fly fishing then this is the page for you.
There are a lot of other fly fishing websites out there that show you how to fly fish but with Jim's site he decided to throw a bit of a curve ball. What if he taught someone to fly fish and got him (me) to write about all that he learns in this new section of the website called beginner fly fishing. See Jim's reasoning was that it is pretty boring reading about someone who has already been-there-done-that sort of thing and has forgot about what it is like to be a beginner. He thought that his readers would be better served by a beginners perspective, someone who is going to make mistakes and will be able to tell other beginners about them so they won't be doing the same thing.
So...
Enter me (Shane) beginner fly fishing fisherman extrodinaire or should I say extra ordinary fly fisherman.
When I go out fly fishing with Jim I post my adventures on Jim's fly fishing blog so be sure to check it out and when I learn about knots or technique or etiquette or what ever I'll do an article about what I learned and share it with you all here in the beginner fly fishing section. So this section will be a portal sort of speak of all the fly fishing basics I've learned and continue to learn. In a way, we will be learning together. And since I'm a beginner also, I'll be able to tell you what to look out for, what not to do, and maybe even a few fly fishing tips I've picked up along the way.
Remember this beginner fly fishing section is a work in progress. As I learn the fly fishing basics, you will hopefully learn and benefit by my mistakes. The article links are in the sidebar to the left.
So keep your tip up and here we go!
