How To Tie a Blood Knot
Wondering how to tie a blood knot?
In just a few moments you'll be on your way to tying your first one.
This is a bit of a tricky knot to master for a beginner. It is used to tie two similar diameter lines together like your leader if it breaks and you want to join it back together. This is a very strong knot.
If you're tying two pieces of dissimilar diameter line together like your leader to your tippet or just want an easier but strong knot, the surgeons knot may be a better choice.
Ready? Here we go...
Steps in how to tie a blood knot:
1. Lay the ends of two lines you want to join together side by side.
2. Wrap one of the lines around the other 5 to 6 times then bring the end back down through the loop that is formed by both lines.

3. Now do the same with the other line. This is a little hard to describe but a picture is worth a thousand words.

4. Lastly grab the free ends of the knot and firmly tighten the knot.

5. Trim the ends off leaving just a little bit to allow for some movement.
6. Test the knot for strength.
