Fly Fish BC Lakes

Take a Journey of BC's Pristine Lakes

"There are two best times to go fishing: when it's raining and when it's not."

Perhaps even more famous than the rivers of BC are the many lakes that offer greatErie Lake autumn fishing all year round. From the massive lake trout of Atlin Lake in northern BC to the mighty Gerrard Rainbow of Kootenay Lake in the south, and everywhere in between, the lakes of BC hold a variety of species of trout that come readily to an artificial fly.

While every area of British Columbia has its share of quality fisheries, each lake has its own unique character. The size, depth, species, aquatic environment as well as elevation will vary according to the lake. A myriad of variables can affect your fishing but the observant and diligent fly angler will become proficient at marking the peculiarities of the lakes of BC and therefore maximize his potential for success. Deciding what fly to use at any given time of day, how to fish it and determining how the fish are feeding are all important factors and require practise, persistence, and patience.

Many of BC's lakes are surrounded by thick forest so a floating device, whether boat, canoe or float tube, is generally a benefit. But whether you're packing a float tube into a secluded mountain lake or trolling the depths of larger waters, fly fishing the lakes of BC is both a rewarding and relaxing joy. Mosquito Lake BC

“Even a novice can, with a bit of helpful advice and a little practice and observation, become proficient and get the most in relaxing enjoyment from the sport. A keen but observant mind, curiosity, a great deal of patience, and practical experience can then convert that novice into a skilled fisherman or fisherwoman. Fly fishing is not difficult to master. It requires little in the way of physical strength. Observation and reasoning are the most important assets. The ability to note the peculiarities of available feed and the movements of fish is as necessary as the ability to cast a fly.”
