Mean Depth: 4.4m

This is one of those lakes that everyone knows about, everyone goes to and everyone routinely catches fish. Located on Hwy 6, between New Denver and Nakusp, Summit Lake is heavily stocked every year. In 2005, 5000 Pennask AF3N (all female triploid) rainbow trout were stocked. The same number of catchable Fraser Valley triploids were introduced the year before.
Due to the relatively low elevation, it is free of ice in early April and "artificial fly only" restrictions apply at the end of the month. The most common technique used in the spring is chironomid fishing. Weed beds or drop-offs near the islands are popular spots. The little bay between the boat launch and the highway regularly produces trout between 13 and 17 inches. In the evening, the lake boils with rising trout. Stock your fly box with a good selection of caddis and mayfly patterns such as Tom Thumb, CDC, Wulff, humpies, elk-hair caddis, and Adam's Irresistible.
A green Carey Special cast or trolled just below the surface is a good searching pattern year-round, while leeches, dragonfly and damselfly nymph patterns produce throughout the summer months. In July, large traveling sedges attract many fly-fisherman for some frenzied top water water action. Chironomids continue to produce between September and November, as will Woolley Buggers and leach patterns trolled on a sinking line. For hardware fisherman, gang trolls with Wedding Rings, Apex lures and small spoons are popular tackle. Be aware of bait restrictions and limits that change depending on the month fished.
Other attractions in the town of Nakusp include a golf course, hot springs and all the amenities. For more fishing, nearby Upper Arrow Lake offer Gerrard Rainbow, Bull Trout, and Kokanee. Mountain goats can be viewed grazing on the Nakusp mountain range and, in the fall thousands of western toads commence their annual migration from the lake to a nearby forest to hibernate for winter.
